What is Serpent Publications?
Publishing
Serpent Publications is dedicated to providing music suitable for playing in the home. We specialize in editions of Renaissance Polyphony with modern clefs but otherwise containing the same information as the original players would have had. That is, there are not editorial barlines or other groupings. Any editorial emendations are clearly marked, and the parts are presented separately rather than in a score.
To download books for a small fee, or order printed hardcopies for a slightly larger fee, go to the Laymusic lulu.com store.
Consulting
Music publishing
We can typeset music for you, with not only high-quality pdf output that you can print yourself or take anywhere for high-quality printing, but also MIDI files that you can practice with, and ABC or Lilypond source that you can correct or modify in any way you want.
In addition, we can publish your compositions or public-domain works you wish the public to have access to on the web.
Web Design
We do web design and short-term programming contracts. Examples of Serpent-Publications designed websites, besides this one, are:
- The Boston Recorder Society has a fairly complex, data-base-backed website, with an interactive calendar and an area for members only.
- allhomeservice.biz is a brochure-type website I did for a contractor friend. It includes a quotation request form.
Typesetting Services
In the course of publishing music, we have become accomplished users of the TeX typesetting language. We can typeset invitations, concert programs, brochures, or other documents, for quite reasonable prices.
Examples include:
- A souvenir booklet for an eightieth birthday party.
- One-page concert program.
- A more elaborate program, with lyrics and program notes.
- A business card, which prints on a sheet of microperf business card stock, so that you only need to print 10 at a time, and you can modify the text to suit the next place you'll be handing them out.
